Order pickers for a warehouse complex

A warehouse complex was extending its shift and could not cover the need for pickers. Workin ran sourcing, a physical readiness check, the document route and transport to the site.

Who had to be hired

  • Order pickers
  • Picking zone workers
  • General warehouse workers

Project constraints

  • On your feet for the whole shift, manual handling
  • Handheld terminals and task-driven work
  • Shift schedule including evenings
  • Site outside the city, transport required

01The company's starting position

The complex was increasing picking volume and needed a stable group. Turnover in the role was high and local hiring did not deliver the pace required.

02The Workin approach

Workin described the profile for the specific picking zone and pace, not for an abstract warehouse worker. That reduced the number of people who start a shift and cannot take the load.

03Sourcing and screening

Candidates were checked for readiness for physical load and shift work, not only for formal experience. Everyone understood the conditions before signing.

04Document route

Permits were processed as one package for the group. The plant received a status per candidate and one readiness date for the group.

05Arrival and housing

The group moved into approved housing, and transport to the warehouse ran against the shift schedule - including the way back after an evening shift.

06First day at work

The first day was accompanied by the coordinator: passes, workwear, introduction to the zone and the supervisor.

07Support after the start

Living and transport questions were handled by the project coordinator. The warehouse manager had one contact instead of messaging every worker.

Project outcome

The warehouse received a stable picking group and a predictable turnout. The commute stopped being a reason for lateness and no-shows.

What the employer provides
